Every camper’s birthday is important and celebrated at Camp
At Camp Harlow we love celebrating birthdays—and half birthdays! When Program Director “Bama” hears that a camper has a birthday, he announces it to Camp during Morning Club, a time of singing songs and seeing skits at the Campitheatre (Camp’s amphitheatre). And then he leads Camp in serenading the camper with our Camp birthday song: “This is your birthday song, It isn’t very long, Hey!” This summer we’ve already celebrated multiple campers birthdays, one of which was quite memorable. For this camper’s birthday everyone sang to her while she was being lifted up in a chair by her counselors and some staff! There was also a counselor who serenaded her with a classical version of Happy Birthday. For a different camper, their counselors knew it was their birthday and they ran to greet their camper when they arrived at camp shouting “Happy birthday!” They were so excited to celebrate their camper. Besides this the birthday camper is allowed to pick one Camp song to sing at Morning Club, which is a special treat. All this to say, Camp really values birthdays as they are a celebration of God’s creation and life; and here at Camp we strive to treat campers like every day is their birthday.
