Summer Staff

SUMMER STAFF JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND APPLICATIONS:  

REQUIRED STAFF TRAINING DATES 2019: Subject To Change

 This is for our Impact Team and Counseling Staff.  There will be other training times for Work Crew, Junior Wrangler, Wranglers and Lifeguards.  Training is required for all New and Returning Staff.  Here are the dates to mark on your Calendar for 2019.

-Impact Team Training: 8:00 am,  Friday, June 14-Tuesday, June 18.  There will be a break in Training on Sunday, June 16 for Father’s Day beginning at Noon.  Staff will need to report back to camp by 8:30 am on Monday, June 17 for Training. Staff will remain on camp until 5:00 pm on Friday once we are finished with Elementary Overnight. 

-Senior Counselor Training (Ages 18-Up): Friday evening, June 14-Tuesday, June 18.  There will be a break in Training on Sunday, June 16 for Father’s Day beginning at Noon.  Training will resume at 8:00 am on Monday morning, June 17.  Training will end around 4:45 pm on Tuesday, June 18.    Those serving the first camp will be on camp until 5 pm on Friday, June 21. Staff will be staying on camp overnight including Tuesday night. 

-Counselor Training (Ages 16-17):   Friday evening, June 14-Tuesday, June 18.  There will be a break in Training on Sunday, June 16 for Father’s Day beginning at Noon. Training will end at 4:45 pm on Tuesday.    Those serving the first camp will be on camp until 5 pm on Friday, June 21. Staff will be staying on camp overnight including Tuesday night. 

-Counselors-In-Training (CIT; Age 15): Friday evening, June 14-Noon on Sunday, June 16 (which leaves plenty of time to spend with your Dad for Father’s Day). 

-Counselor Assistant Program (Ages 13-14): Friday evening, June 14-Noon on Sunday, June 16 (which leaves plenty of time to spend with your Dad for Father’s Day). CAPS will spend Friday night and Saturday night on camp for Training.  However, during Day Camps, CAPS will be only be here for the daytime only.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS                                                                                                                      

PAID POSITIONS: There is an opportunity for any Senior Counselor or Impact Team member who has a valid Life Guarding certificate to also serve as a Lifeguard during camper aquatic activities and earn a few extra dollars.  See online application for details.

 Senior Counselor  $145 for Spring Break. Summer pay rates begin at $184 per week.

  • Camp Harlow Senior Counselors play a very key role in our ministry and can have a significant spiritual impact on the lives of their campers. They can make a difference in camper’s lives in the midst of rotations and activities, evening programs, free time, cabin devotions, Bible studies and by being an example of Jesus Christ. The hours are long, and the job is challenging, therefore, these people need to be deeply committed to Christ while ministering to others and serving God. *Must be at least 18 years of age by 1st day of training.  The time commitment for most weeks is from early Sunday afternoon on Sundays to late afternoon on Fridays (Sunday evening-Friday evening for Day Camps).  
Counselor (Age 17)  $105 for Spring Break: $130 per week for Summer until positions have been filled.
  • Counselors serve as ministry assistants to our Senior Counselors. They are a critical part of our ministry and are involved in the same areas as noted above.  Must be at least 17 years of age by 1st day of training and/or will be a High School Senior September 2018.  Counselors will stay overnight for all sessions they are serving including Training and Day Camps.  The time commitment for most weeks is from early Sunday afternoon until late afternoon on Fridays (Sunday evening-Friday evening for Day Camps). .
Lifeguard
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and have current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid.  Lifeguard certifications must be from the American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis and Associates, Royal Lifeguarding or comparable certifying organization.  Previous lifeguard experience desirable.  The time commitment for most camps will Monday-Thursday, and weekend rentals.  During Day Camps, Lifeguards will also be needed on Friday afternoons.  
Work Crew Leadership 17 and older
  • Food Handlers card required.  To be eligible to serve on Work Crew, you must be able to serve for the full duration of commitment (Monday-Friday) unless otherwise noted. Wrangler (18 & Older) 
  • Wranglers serve in a leadership role under the direction of the Head Wrangler.  Experience in Western and/or English disciplines required, as well as knowledge of horse nutrition and behavior. Wranglers will instruct both individuals and large groups of beginning riders. VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Counselor Age 16 (Volunteer Position)
  • Counselors serve as ministry assistants to our Senior Counselors. They are a critical part of our ministry and are involved in the same areas as noted above.  Must be at least 16 years of age by 1st day of training (Exceptions sometimes made for summer birthdays based upon grade going into in September, but not a guarantee).  Counselors will stay overnight for all sessions they are serving including Training and Day Camps.  The time commitment for most weeks is from early Sunday afternoon on Sundays to late afternoon on Fridays (Sunday evening-Friday evening for Day Camps).   
Counselor In Training (Volunteer Position)
  • The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is a vital part of the overall ministry at Camp Harlow. It is designed primarily as a training program, helping young students develop sound fundamentals of Christian Servant-Leadership. NOTE: CITs will serve at Day Camps only. *Must be at least 15 years of age by 1st day of training.  (Exceptions sometimes made for summer birthdays based upon grade going into in September, but not a guarantee).  CITS will stay overnight on sight during Training and Day Camps in which they serve.  The time commitment for Day Camps will be Sunday evening-Friday evening.  
Counselor Assistant Program (Volunteer Position; DAY TIME ONLY)
  • The Counselor Assistant Program (CAP) is a vital part of the overall ministry at Camp Harlow. It is designed as a training program for 13 and 14 year old students, instilling young students with sound fundamentals for Christian Leadership. Counselor Assistants play a very key role in our ministry and can have a significant spiritual impact on the lives of their campers. They can make a difference in campers’ lives in the midst of rotations, activities, and free time primarily by being an example of Jesus Christ. The hours are long, and the job is challenging, therefore, these people need to be deeply committed to Christ while ministering to others, exhibit maturity, and serving God. NOTE: CAPs will serve at Summer Day Camps only. *Must be at least 13 years of age by 1st day of training (Exceptions sometimes made for summer birthdays based upon grade going into in September, but not a guarantee).  
Junior Wrangler (DAY TIME ONLY)
  • Junior wranglers are volunteers 13 years of age and older who are willing to provide support to the Wranglers and Equestrian Program.  They are essential to the program’s success.  No previous experience is required, training will be provided.  Junior Wranglers are asked to conduct themselves in a manner that supports the ministry of First Baptist Church and Camp Harlow.  Duties of a Junior Wrangler may include cleaning stalls, cleaning and filling water troughs, grooming and tacking up horses, leading horses for small children, help riders mount and dismount horses, assisting wranglers in riding lessons, helping maintain riding trails, and bathing horses.  For more information, click on the Wrangler/Junior Wrangler “Quick Link” in the lower right hand corner of the homepage of the Harlow website. 
Work Crew (DAY TIME ONLY)
  • Applicants must be 14 years of age and older and have completed 8th grade.  Food Handlers card required.  To be eligible to serve on Work Crew, you must be able to serve for the full duration of commitment (Monday-Friday; 8:30 am-5:15 pm) unless otherwise noted.   • Click on the application link, follow the directions and the online application will guide you to what needs to be completed.  You can save information and come back to it later, but WE WOULD HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO COMPLETE IT IN ONE SITTING IF YOU ARE ABLE.  Once you have submitted the online portion of the Application, you should get a confirmation e-mail letting you know we have received it. In the e-mail, there are three additional types of documents that need to be submitted including Reference Forms (2 Reference Forms if you are returning; one must be the Pastor/Church Leader Form, and one of the other two.  If you are a first time applicant, we need all three).  The will also be a link to Essay Questions in which you will e-mail your responses, and fill out a Google document regarding our Statement of Faith.  Please fill out the application based on your age for this coming summer. 

    For those who apply by February 15, you will receive a free brand new Camp Harlow Sweatshirt. All portions including Essay Questions Reference Forms must completed in order for you to be eligible.  If you are applying to serve Spring Break, we need your application by February 15 at the latest. 

    We would like the applicants themselves to fill out our Staff applications, not parents of applicants. At this time, we only have online available.  

 

  • 2019 Staff Applications 

     

    You will want to have contact information of those who will be filling out your Reference Forms handy.  One major change in the application for 2019 is that for Availability, we only want to know about the weeks you are not available.  If you are unsure about your Availability at the time of applying, let us know and we can revise if you are accepted to serve.   We would like are staff to be committed to serve as many weeks as they are able. Also, the only difference between First Time and Returning is the number of References required; two for Returning, three for First Time.
